When the Mount Washington Hotel in Bretton Woods, N.H., opened in 1902, it was a state-of-the-art facility. Built by coal and railroad magnate Joseph Stickney, the majestic Italian Renaissance-style resort used the latest design and construction methods, including a steel superstructure. Among the amenities were a barber shop, stockbroker's room, bowling alley, billiards room, and cigar room.
Clientele continue to be drawn to the resort's majestic White Mountain views, which will soon be enhanced by a first-rate conference facility and full-service spa, complete with pools and fitness center. Additional new construction of the spa and conference center is under way and due to be complete by late 2008. The resort's signature Donald Ross golf course will be expanded as well. Subsequent phases of development will entail expansion of the Bretton Woods Ski Resort with a new village at its base featuring approximately 1,000 residential units, as well as restaurants, shops, and office space.more More RevitalizationOnline.com feature articles
